Greetings!

Belated Happy New Year!  2013 started in high gear with lots of weekday and weekend retreats.  After a long holiday break, we were happy to get back to Our House and see so many old friends.
Around Our House……   
-Happy Birthday to Our House In Milford! We celebrated being in business 5 years – as of January 18, 2013.   Thank you to The Birthday Girls and The Tomball Ladies for this beautiful quilt in celebration of our 5th year milestone! The quilt is proudly hanging at Our House.  Stop by and admire it the next time you are retreating at Our House!

- Based on the little plants we see, the front yard is going to be full of Bluebonnets in the spring. What a picture that will be!

- Kristina Rhew won the 4th Quarter drawing.  Kristina will receive $50 off her next retreat at Our House.  Congratulations, Kristina!

- To celebrate our 5 years in business, this year we will award 5 OHIMer points each quarter.  Each time you retreat*, your name will go into the drawing.  At the end of each quarter, we’ll draw a name. That person will get 5 OHIMer points added to his/her total.  When you have 8 OHIMer points, we give you a $50 gift certificate toward your next retreat.  Good luck!

Become an OHIM Ambassador!

Thanks for your support over the past five years!  Last year 251 new guests retreated with us.  We want to meet more new people this year!.  Our  new program works like this:

  • Tell  a  group of friends, a guild, a shop about retreating at Our House
  • The group  (at least 5 people) you contacted calls us and books a retreat.  They must tell us who referred them.
  • The group  holds a retreat that includes at least 5 people who have never retreated at Our House.
  • You receive a 50% discount coupon toward your next retreat.  If the group  has 20 new guests or more, you will receive a free retreat.  Coupons will  be distributed after the retreat books and holds.
  • You don’t have to retreat with the group you recommended in order to get the discount.

Shops and guilds currently retreating with us are not eligible for this program.

Dear Friends,

Around Our House….

Belated Happy 4th of July!  We had a great day spent with friends and family and hope you did, too.

The Melinda Bula retreat was a huge success!  The craft room was adorned with beautiful poppies in progress.  Melinda is a great teacher and lots of fun, which is an unbeatable combination.  Melinda is coming back April 18-21, 2013 to teach her Iris pattern. Call or email to make your reservation.  Since most of this year’s students signed up for next year’s workshop, space is limited.

Big News!! 

  • We’ve purchased portable air conditioning units (not wall units) for both ends of the Craft Room!!  They’re quiet and efficient and help us keep the room at a comfortable temperature.
  • We’ve made curtains from our Thimbleberries scraps to cover the window in the door.
  • We’re continuing to use our design walls in front of the windows.
  • Bring the summer on…we’re ready!

When Angie’s handy-husband (Jim) comes to Milford next, he’s going to install bug light bulbs in our outdoor fixtures!

Thank you to Tracy Elgersma, Ashley Dantic, and Kathy King for choosing Our House as your retreat center!  These ladies have retreated with us 8 times since August 2010 and have been awarded a $50 gift certficate towards their next retreat.

 Since our last newsletter…

  • April ended with Tracy’s Spring Fling.  Our House was full of fun and laughter!
  • May was full of  fun and holidays!  The Crafty Scrapper celebrated National
    Scrapbooking Day at Our House.  Melinda Bula taught us how to make
    incredible poppies using her method.  In between those times we celebrated Father’s Day and Memorial Day!
  • June was quiet at Our House.  The BAQ-BFF was at Our House in early June.  The design walls were full of beautiful quilts in progress.  The rest of the month we traveled from North Carolina to California, with a side trip to Nebraska.  We had tons of fun visiting friends and family - and making new friends along the way
  • July is off to a great start with a visit from Leisa And Friends.  We look foward to their annual visit.  Some quilting friends joined the retreat which just added to the fun.

Dear Friends,

Around Our House….

Is it too late to say Happy New Year??  How about Happy Tax Day??  The first quarter of 2012 was a blur – and for that we are so grateful!

Hope you’re sitting down when you read this next sentence.  We have a sink (hot & cold water) and an ice maker in the craft room!!  So, you have your own little kitchenette when you retreat.

We’re loving spring in Milford (although winter felt alot like spring!).  The bluebonnets have been plentiful and gorgeous!  I’m sure the wet and warm winter we had contributed to the size and beauty.  Our roses are blooming and the grass is greening. Life is good.

We have 5 spots available for the Melinda Bula retreat.   Click here to learn more about Melinda and the workshop she’ll be teaching May 18-20.

Always wanted to make a Judy Niemeyer quilt or wall hanging, but afraid to tackle it on your own?  Have you begun a Judy Neimeyer project and need help or need to learn some techniques?  We have the answer for you!  Eileen Urbanek, a well-known and certified Judy Niemeyer teacher, will be at Our House August 23-26.  Eileen is a great teacher (as many of her students have told us) and is certified to teach in Texas.   Contact us for more information.

Since our last newsletter…

  • In an effort to prevent our prices from rising, we modified our coordinator reward program so that anyone bringing 20 people receives a $50 discount on his/her retreat.  Anyone who brings 30 or more will receive a $75 discount on his/her retreat.  The change was posted on our web site in February and was effective immediately.
  • The two December retreats (Clean Out Our Freezer) were a great success again.
  • January was tons of fun!  The BAQ-BFF started off the year.  As always there was lots of sewing, laughing, and even a retirement party! Next, the Birthday Girls and the Tomball Ladies held an extended retreat (Wed-Sun). This fun group had a great time and finished lots of UFOs.  The Quilters’ Guild of Arlington helped us finish the month. We saw many beautiful quilts during January!
  • OHIM rocked during February! Just Friends kicked off the month with a 3-night weekday retreat. The friends worked on their UFOs and spent time catching up with each other. As the Friends left, the Crafty Scrappers were arriving. This energetic group kept late hours and completed many projects.  Quilts ‘n More hosted a birthday party for all the retreaters.  The gift exchange was tons of fun…and we learned lots of new information about the retreaters.
  • March came in like a lion! The Quilters Guild of Parker County retreated with us.  We met lots of new friends!  The Granbury Knitting Guild, joined up with some of our knitter friends from Plano and our scrapbooking group, Amy & Friends. The Love County Quilt Guild and Wabi-Sabis held a retreat with us – and taught us how to geocache!  The Shabby Sheep, Lynn & Friends, and Lori & Friends retreated together and had a great time.  There was scrapbooking, knitting, weaving, and quilting going on all at the same time!  Jo Morton held a weekday retreat and finished out the month for us.
  • April started off with a Jo Morton weekend retreat and Our House was full! The McKinney Quilt Guild held their annual retreat with us.  We loved seeing  them again and all the beautiful quilts they were working on.

Did You Know????

  • Judy Bell of the Parker County Quilters Guild won the $50 gift certificate given in honor of Angie’s 50th birthday.  Congratulations, Judy!
  • Big News!  We held a board meeting and decided to celebrate Angie’s birthday for the entire year.  So, we will have a quarterly drawing for a $50 gift certificate.  Angie’s turning 50 was so much fun that we want to share the fun with our customers all year.

Dear Friends,

Around Our House….

We are enjoying the cool weather in Milford.  At last, fall fell and we’re seeing hints of winter, too!  Our Bluebonnets are so confused!  They’re springing up everywhere.  Guess they think it’s March, poor babies!  Some of our herbs perked up in the garden.  To keep them company, we’ve planted some collards..yummm.

Our front yard is getting a facelift…thanks to our friend, Clayton.  He, with some help from Christopher, has cleared the underbrush along the road and taken down the barb wire fence.  We also have some winter rye planted – so hopefully there will be some green grass soon.

Halloween gets better every year at Our House!  We have pictures on our website for your enjoyment.  A big thank you goes to Mary Somerville and Patty Hofer! Mary made the nametags, shopped for all kinds of neat decorations and give-aways, and decorated Our House.  Patty Hofer is our resident artist, and she designs and builds the props that decorate the house.  Patty’s new additions this year were a mummy and multiple spiders with “larva” balls hanging in the ADA bathroom.

Thank you, Janet, for the Halloween guest towels for each bathroom!  Our guests really enjoyed them all weekend.  Ashley, the  “Boo” hanging hung over the gift table.  Thanks!

Thank you, Wabi-Sabis for the beautiful angel.  She is gracing the sewing machine in the foyer.  Next time you’re at Our House, stop and admire her.

Since our last newsletter…

  • Our House Annual Labor Day Retreat AND Leigh’s 50th Birthday was a huge success!  Everyone had a good time and the creative juices were flowing.
  • Happy 2B Quilters arrived ready for lots of sewing and fun.  The weekend was full of friendship and laughter.
  • The Kaufman Quilt Guild held their fall retreat at Our House.  The group turns out some beautiful quilts and applique work.   
  • Amy Roberts and friends scrapbooked with us. There were lots of surprises that weekend, and this group rose to the occasion!  
  • The Wabi Sabi group returned for relaxation and quilting.  This group of friends loves being together.
  • Quilts ‘n More hosted their fall retreat. The quilters and the scrapbookers had a great time together!  Our House was full of lots of laughter and excitement.
  • Sherri & Friends showed up for a weekend of scrapbooking.  This group has lots of fun together and are very creative.
  • Halloween gets better each year!  We had a good turnout – and tons of fun and good, spooky food.  See our pictures by clicking here.
  • Kim & Friends had a scrapping good time with us.  We were happy to see our friends visit Our House again!
  • The Crafty Scrapper held their last retreat of 2011.  Everyone was busy scrapping, laughing, and having a great time.  Many burned the midnight oil, which just added to the fun.

  • We will be closed for the holidays December 12 – January 4.  Our prayer is that you and your families will have a blessed holiday.
  • Big News!  Not only will we be celebrating 4 full years in business, but Angie is turning 50 in January!  We’re going to celebrate by giving away a $50 gift certificate to a lucky retreater.  To get your name in the drawing, you must attend a retreat at Our House during the the first quarter of 2012!  We’ll draw in early April 2012 and announce our winner!
