Our House in Milford is excited to announce our first Icon Writing retreat with  Teresa Harrison.  Teresa Harrison is a lifelong Episcopalian who has been writing icons for 17 years and leads workshops at retreat centers around the country.  She currently resides in Coronado, CA and has studied with master iconographers Phillip Zimmerman and Ksenia Pokrovsky.  

This course will introduce the rich Eastern Orthodox tradition of Byzantine Style Iconography. Each student will be led through a step by step process of painting an icon of Christ, the Virgin Mary, or one of the Saints in ancient Greek and Russian artistic styles. 

This is a beginner course, but experienced iconographers will also find it rewarding.  The five-day retreat also includes the Eucharist, Gregorian chant, praying with icons, discussions of the development of iconography, readings, silence, free time, and social hours.  Icons will be painted in Jo Sonia acrylic paint, a medium which most closely resembles the traditional egg tempera, and 23 ct. gold leaf. This is a class that continually invites prayer and an openness to God working in and through each person.

The cost for the retreat is $675, which includes all meals, lodging, instruction and  materials for writing your icon.  Our chaplain for the week will be The Reverend Joy A. Daley.

Space is limited to 20 persons
